Job Description

This position is expected to be made at the Assistant Professor level but appointment at a higher level for exceptionally qualified candidates will be considered. The successful candidate will be expected to establish and develop a new, externally funded research program in Experimental Condensed Matter Physics. We expect the new faculty member to be associated with the ODU Center for Accelerator Science and contribute significantly to ongoing studies of new superconducting materials for the next generation of particle accelerators as well as to initiate new research directions. This appointment will provide many opportunities for collaboration with the experimental and theoretical groups within the Department of Physics and at the nearby Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility.

Minimum Qualifications - knowledge, skills, and abilities

Applicants must have a record of research accomplishments in Experimental Condensed Matter Physics, or closely related field, and
be able to teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels and supervise undergraduate and graduate students in research.

Minimum Qualifications - Education or training

Applicants must have a PhD or equivalent in Physics or a closely related field, and teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to applicants possessing a strong research record with research experience in low-temperature physics and investigation of electromagnetic properties of new superconducting materials in microwave or radio-frequency fields.
