Job Description

This position will provide support to the University’s computing environment through technical knowledge and support of desktop, server, storage, server/desktop virtualization technologies and large scale systems operating systems.

Thorough knowledge of Server and Storage hardware and software and appropriate system practices. Thorough knowledge of Windows hardware and software and appropriate system practices. Considerable knowledge of Linux hardware, software and appropriate systems practices. Considerable knowledge of directory services and data communications in the LAN environment. Considerable knowledge of desktop and server virtualization technologies in campus/enterprise environment. Demonstrated ability to interact with computer vendors and University community. Demonstrated ability to efficiently manage time. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to provide technical and project leadership to other staff as required.

Special licenses, registration or certification

Microsoft Certified Professional(MCP)/Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer(MCSE) and/or VMware Certified Associate(VCA)/VMware Certified Professional(VCP) and/or Red Hat Certified Engineer(RCE) or equivalent knowledge.

Education or training


Level and type of experience

Considerable experience in the implementation and management of servers using windows and Linux operating systems. Considerable experience in the management of virtual desktop environments using VMware’s ESXi, VCenter, composers, brokers and horizon view suite. Considerable experience with Microsoft directory services and policy management. Considerable experience in the area of patch management for managed desktop environment as well as server platforms. Considerable experience in the management standalone or clustered NAS/SAN solutions.

Preferred knowledge, skills, abilities, education, experience, licensure, certification

Considerable experience with design, implementation and management of windows server 2008 and higher , RHEL and/or CentOS in an enterprise/campus environment. Considerable knowledge and experience in the deployment of desktop and virtualization technologies using VMWare Horizon software suite or similar technologies. Thorough experience with client/server communication in a networked environment using Microsoft Active Directory and/or LDAP directory services and associated group policy management for clients and server infrastructure. Considerable knowledge of powercli, powershell, python and/or C/C++. Thorough knowledge in proper documentation of systems using Microsoft Visio or similar software packages.

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Sciences or related discipline or equivalent combination of education and related job experience.

Conditions of Employment

40 hour work week Monday-Friday; some evenings and weekends; rotating on call.

This position is designated as sensitive. A fingerprint-based criminal history check will be required of the final candidate.

Annual Salary/Hourly Rate Salary is commensurate with education and experience and begins at $ - 57,342
