Old Dominion University invites applications for a 10-month full-time, tenure-track faculty position in biostatistics in the School of Community and Environmental Health. The School of Community and Environmental Health seeks faculty with a strong biostatistics background, experience in public health, and health-related research. Incoming faculty are expected to maintain an active program of research, teaching, and service. The successful candidate will develop independent research projects and serve as a collaborator/co-investigator on current and future studies, including, but not limited to epidemiologic and other public health-related research. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an active program of research, graduate teaching/advising, and service, to pursue external research funding and to be a collaborative researcher, with methodological approaches grounded in and informed by public health. Responsibilities include research, advising students and teaching at graduate and undergraduate levels, and departmental, school, university, and professional service. The position reports to the Chair of the School of Community and Environmental Health in the College of Health Sciences (http://www.hs.odu.edu).

Minimum Qualifications - knowledge, skills, and abilities

The candidate should have extensive, strong research expertise in biostatistics and research methodology. Specifically, experience in study design, in developing analytic approaches for health-related studies, and in guiding and conducting statistical data analyses, and data interpretation. Proficiency in at least one statistical and data base software such as SAS, SPSS, STATA, is required. The candidate must also have the requisite competencies to effectively teach and mentor students in biostatistics and research methodologies, including statistical applications, data analysis, research study design and related areas such as effectively communicating data results orally and in writing. Appointment at the level of Associate Professor requires a record of significant achievements in research, teaching, and service including an independent research program or strong potential for obtaining extramural funding to establish an independent research program.

Minimum Qualifications - Education or training

Earned terminal degree (e.g., PhD, ScD) in biostatistics or a closely related field from an accredited program;
Proficiency in at least one standard statistical data base software, preferably SAS.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with epidemiologic research and an understanding of epidemiologic approaches and methods;
• Demonstrated experience working with others and across departments or disciplines; Collaborative research potential and experience, particularly as related to public health;
• Evidence of public health training and experience;
• Graduate-level teaching experience in biostatistics or a closely related field
• Experience advising and mentoring graduate students in biostatistics
• Experience with a range of biostatistical methods and research methodologies;
• Potential for securing external research funding
